WATERVILLE, Maine -- Sophie Stokes Cerkvenik will compete in two events and Colby College teammates Helen Chavey and Rachel Leonard will race in one at the NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The NCAA meet is close to home this year, with competition starting Friday and ending Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, Mass.
Stokes Cerkvenik, a national champion and All-American in the outdoor 100 hurdles, is the sixth seed in the 60-meter hurdles (8.81) and is 18th in the 200 dash (25.19). She competes in a 60 hurdles preliminary race at 2 p.m. Friday and races in the 200 dash at 6:50 p.m.
Chavey is ranked ninth in the mile at 4:58.11 and competes at 5 p.m. Friday in a preliminary race. She was an All-NESCAC and All-New England cross country runner during the fall.
Leonard is seeded 18th in the 400 meters at 57.48 and will sprint at 5:40 p.m. Friday in a prelim race.
If either competitor gets past Friday's prelim races, the schedule for Saturday's finals include 60 hurdles (1:45 p.m.), mile (3:05 p.m.), 400 dash (3:30 p.m.), and 200 dash (4:15 p.m.).
