Stokes Cerkvenik again breaks record; Johnson strong in high jump

BOSTON, Mass. -- Colby College's Sophie Stokes Cerkvenik broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles invitational and nearly broke the 200 dash record at Boston University's Valentine Classic on Friday.

Stokes Cerkvenik finished fifth overall in a field of Division I hurdlers in the final and broke her own record with a time of 8.81. She had set 8.89 on two occasions. Stokes Cerkvenik also placed 40th in the 200 dash in 25.38, just off the 25.37 school record.
Colby first-year Sharde Johnson placed in a tie for seventh overall with a leap of 5-5 in the high jump. She also was going up against Division I athletes in the final.
In the regular 60 hurdles, Christina Speliakos was fourth in 9.55, Christie Woodside took fifth with a 9.61, Emma O'Hara placed 16th in 9.95, Laura Polley had a 10.00 to place 17th, and Emily Larson was 19th in 10.09.
Jayla Moss placed 19th for the Colby women in the triple jump (36-4.75), Kaylie Vallee was 24th with a 34-11, and Speliakos took 26th in 34-5.5.
Rachel Leonard was 47th for Colby  in the 400 meters (57.79) and Taylor Depalo finished 68th in 58.61. Leonard also was 75th in the 200 dash (26.00).
