Stokes Cerkvenik breaks own school record in 60 hurdles

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Colby College's Sophie Stokes Cerkvenik is back and better than ever after breaking her own indoor track and field record in the  60-meter hurdles at the Great Dane Classic on Saturday.
Stokes Cerkvenik, the national champion in the 100 hurdles at last year's NCAA outdoor meet, finished sixth overall in a field of Division I hurdlers with a time of 8.89. She had an 8.91 last year for the old record.
The 1,600 relay team of Rachel Leonard, Annah Rossvall, Stokes Cerkvenik, and Taylor Depalo placed seventh in a time of 4:02.27.
Leonard placed 12th in the 500 meters in 1:19.38, Depalo was 15th in 1:19.50, and Rossvall took 20th with a 1:21.69.
At a tri-meet with MIT and Bates, Helen Chavey finished in second place in the 3,000-meter run and teammate Jocelyn Meyer was runner-up in the 60 dash.
Chavey, coming off an All-NESCAC cross country season, had a time of 10 minutes, 26.01 seconds in the 3,000. She was the lone Mule runner in a field of 12.
Meyer had a solid day with her second in the 60 dash (8.44) and a fourth in the 200 meters (28.55). Colby's Margaret Bannon was third in the 200 dash (28.04) and fourth in the 60 dash (8.48).
Emily Larson was third in the high jump (5-0.25) and fifth in the 60 hurdles (10.36). Emma O'Hara took fourth in the high jump (4-8.25) and Laura Polley was fourth in the 60 hurdles (9.81).
Hannah Springhorn placed fourth in the 600 meters (1:43.17) and MJ Kievman had the same finish in the 400 meters (1:06.18). Kaylie Vallee took fifth place in the triple jump (34-8.5).
