LEWISTON, Maine -- Gabriela Venditti and Callie Nesbitt made the final of the 'B' draw for the Colby College women's tennis team at the Bates College Doubles Invitational on Sunday.
Venditti and Nesbitt started the day with an 8-3 quarterfinal win over Sydney Byrnes and Hannah Londoner of Bates. The Colby duo won by the same score in a semifinal victory over Rachel Zubrinsky and Isabel Cepeda of Brandeis University. In a close final, Venditti and Nesbitt fell 8-7 (2) to Bowdoin College's Rachel Bercovitch and Fleming Landau.
Lindsey Hernadez and Katharine Dougherty made it to the semifinal round (no final was played) in the 'C' draw. The pair opened with an 8-0 win over Allison Burton and Lexy Acosta of Wheaton College in a quarterfinal. Hernadez and Dougherty won 8-4 in a semifinal match over Wheaton's Jordyn Paul and Elizabeth Michaud.
In 'A' round play, Lydia Venditti and Jess Tsai fell to a team from Brandeis in a quarterfinal match. The Colby pair bounced back for an 8-6 win against Trinity College's Elena Pellegrini and Marta Drausnik in a consolation round match. Venditti and Tsai dropped a tough 8-7 (1) decision to a team from Wheaton in their final match.
