First-year doubles team wins 'B' draw in opening competition

LEWISTON, Maine -- Carly Levitz (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Olivia Scordo (Glen Head, N.Y.) had success in their first collegiate competition as the first-year duo won the 'B' draw at the Wallach Women's Doubles Invitational on Saturday at Bates College.

Levitz and Scordo took an 8-7 (9-7) win over Lauren Hernandez and Sydney Byrnes in the final. The Colby duo took an 8-2 win over Trinity College's Lily Everett and Jane Weber in a semifinal. Levitz and Scordo won 8-3 over Mary Kille and Marissa Madison of Babson College in THE quarterfinal round.
Gabriela Venditti and Callie Nesbitt also won 8-7 in a 'B' quarterfinal against Emily Roeper and Chloe Brandt of Babson. The Colby pair then fell to Hernandez and Byrnes in a semifinal.
In 'C' draw play, senior Jamie Pine (Providence, R.I.) and first-year Gabriella Gabel (Fairfield, Conn.) made the final before falling 8-5 to Isabel Cepeda and Ana Hatfield of Brandeis. The Colby pairing won 8-4 over Trinity's Ashley Walker and Isabelle Nolan. Pine and Gabel won 8-2 in a quarterfinal match against Babson's Carly Martinson and Nathalie Perreault.
Lydia Venditti and Jessica Tsai finished in fourth place in the 'A' draw after earning an 8-4 win over Anna Rozin and Hannah Sweeney of Bates in a quarterfinal match. The duo lost a tough 9-7 match to Rachel Bercovitch and Tasha Christ in the semifinals and then finished fourth after a setback to a team from Brandeis in the third-place match.
