Paige breaks school record in 1,000 freestyle at NESCAC meet

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Colby College first-year Addie Paige broke the school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle and placed fourth overall at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Wesleyan University on Saturday.

"Addie has had a very strong meet so far," Colby head coach Tom Burton said. "From her 5:01 in the 500 and just barely missing our school record and earning an NCAA B cut to leading off our 800 free relay in a personal best of 1:53, which was also right around our record and another B-cut."
Paige had a time of 10 minutes, 21.76 seconds to break the old record of Mandy Ferguson '12, who had a 10:25.35 in 2011. Paige joins select company in Colby distance swimming in Sally White '91 and Ferguson. White held the 1,000 record before Ferguson broke the mark. White still holds the 500 and 1,650 freestyle school records.
"Addie has been consistently dedicated to her training and to doing the little extras this year. Most importantly, though, has been Addie’s dedication to her team and teammates," Burton said. "All year she has been willing to compete in any event or combination of events to help the team and her performances on relays have been phenomenal. Her achievements this weekend have truly been earned."
The 1,000 was the best event of the meet for the Mules. Lacey Wright (pictured) took 15th place with a time of 10:37.13.
Hannah Griffin swam in the consolation final of the 400 individual medley and took 11th place in a time of 4:38.10 after a 4:38.01 in a morning preliminary race.
Georganna Benedetto was 20th for the Mules in the 200 freestyle (1:56.93).
