Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Women's Soccer team fell at home to Amherst College by a score of 4-0.
On a special day where Colby celebrated their three seniors (Dani Lonati #1, Lindsay Ayers #5 - cover photo, Kara Wilson #22) and the atmosphere was as beautiful as the weather, the visiting Mammoths came focused to walk away with a win and improve their conference standings. Amherst currently sits in the 6th seed with only a few more games remaining, and only one win separates them from hosting a first round match. Colby sits just outside the playoffs with two games to go.
Amhersts goals came in pairs, as the first two were struck only minutes apart. Sara Sullivan struck first nine minutes into play followed by Isabel Stern (assist by Alexa Juarez) only five minutes later. The next pair came in the second half, as Sophia Fikke scored at the 62 minute mark, followed at 65 by Mikayla Brenman. Juarez is ranked in the top 10 in NESCAC for points and leads the league in assists.
Colby continued to split time in goal with senior Lonati (photo inset) and junior Shannon Gray. Each let in two goals, but Gray added four saves to her season total and remains first in NESCAC with 64 saves on the year.
The Mules are back in action on Wednesday when they host the University of Maine-Farmington for a 3:00 PM match.
