Women's hockey unbeaten in last five games after NESCAC victory

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Colby College women's hockey team is unbeaten in five straight games after scoring twice in the second period on the way to a 2-0 victory over Wesleyan University in NESCAC play Friday at Alfond Rink.
The Mules, who improve to 4-2-3 overall and 3-2 in the league, and Wesleyan (3-5 overall, 1-2 NESCAC) play again Saturday at 3 p.m. at Colby.
By the numbers
* Neither team managed much offense in a scoreless first period in a battle of two of the top goalies in the league. San Roman, who pushed her save percentage up to .948 and lowered her goals against average to 1.39, had 11 saves in the second period.
* Wesleyan goalie Allegra Grant came into the game leading the NESCAC in save percentage and goals against average. She also played well, stopping 17 of her 33 saves in the second period.
* Colby scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal on a nice transition up the ice. Elizabeth Brashich pushed a puck back to Mikayla McLaughlin in front of the Colby goal. McLaughlin saw Lucy Dembeck up the right boards and put a nice pass off the wall directly on Dembeck's stick. Dembeck raced in from the right side and lifted the puck over Grant's left shoulder for the score at 15:19.
* The Mules kept on the pressure and were rewarded with their second goal at 16:02. Izzy Tegtmeyer passed the puck from the blue line around the boards to Anna Cosentino, who was to the right of the goal. Cosentino one-timed the pass to a wide open Colleen Donoghue (pictured), who one-timed a shot for the score.
