LOWELL, Mass. -- Both the First and Second Varsity 8 crews rowed to victory over Amherst College, the Coast Guard Academy, and the University of Massachusetts - Lowell in Saturday's regatta.

Colby crossed the line in 6:22.4, five seconds ahead of Coast Guard, to qualify for the grand final in the afternoon versus Amherst College, the winner of the other morning heat over UMass Lowell.

In the Grand Final, the Mules rowed to an easy victory over Amherst College, crossing the line in 6:19.6, well ahead of Amherst's time of 6:31.8.

Lillie Kontor (coxswain), Cara Moynihan (stroke), Carlin Schildge (7), Ellie Krossa (6), Marta Torelli (5), Alessandra Grossman (4), Alyssa Kent (3), Helen Watson (2), and Lilly Watson (bow) raced in the Varsity 8 for the Mules.

In the closest race of the day, the Mules Second Varsity 8 crossed the line in 6:36.9, just half a second over Amherst College in 6:37.4, and well ahead of the Coast Guard Academy in 6:59.1.

"The 2V women had a really nice race today. They were down almost a boat-length early on in the race and did a really nice job staying mentally in it and slowly but surely crawling back on Amherst. Riley Karp (coxswain), Stewart Egan (stroke), Eliza Mushinski (7), Alison Obstler (6), Itsy Seeman (5), Annabel McLaughlin (4), Katie Squires (3), Kate Burke (2), and Helen Carroll (bow) raced in the Second Varsity 8 for the Mules.

In Third Varsity 8 racing, the Mules crossed the finish line second behind Amherst College and ahead of UMass Lowell novice. Amherst won the race in 6:43.6, while the Mules raced to a time of 6:50.2. UMass Lowell novice were well behind finishing in 7:22.1
