Softball team has setback to Polar Bears

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College catcher Lolo Niemiec had a pair of hits and scored a run in the Mules' 13-1 loss to Bowdoin College in NESCAC softball Sunday at the Colby Softball Complex.

Kathleen Mason (pictured) and Holly Lallis both went 1-for-2 for the Mules. 
 
Maddie Rouhana belted two two-run home runs in the second inning to help Bowdoin.
 
After scoring two runs in the first inning, Rouhana and the Polar Bears scored nine in the second inning to take control. Allison Rutz led off with a single and promptly came home on Rouhana's first home run. Caroline Rice added a two-run double in the second inning, Lauren O'Shea and Claire McCarthy both had RBI singles, and Natalie Edwards had a sacrifice fly. With McCarthy on second base, Rouhana hit her second two-run shot.
 
The Mules scored their run in the third inning when Lolo Niemiec singled with two outs and came home on an RBI double by Paige Hartnett.
 
Colby will entertain local rival Thomas College on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Thomas.
