Softball drops tough game in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Colby College softball team had the best offensive showing of the young spring with six runs, but Buffalo State scored the lone run in the eighth inning to pull out a 7-6 non-conference victory on Monday in Florida.
The Mules fell 20-3 to Loras College in the second game Monday.
Paige Hartnett had two hits, three runs, two stolen bases, and an RBI for the Mules against Buffalo State. Wiley Holton added one hit, a run, and a stolen base. Ella Hommeyer also had one hit, scored, and stole a base. Julia Saul doubled and had an RBI, Holly Lallis had a run and two sacrifice bunts, and Hailey Rohall and Vanessa Warshaw both had one RBI.
The Mules led 3-0 after the first inning and 6-3 heading into the seventh inning. The Bengals, though, tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. The teams started with a runner at second base in the eighth inning, but Buffalo State managed the only run.
Hartnett was 1-for-1, scored, drove in a run, and stole a base in the Loras game. Lauren Niemiec was 1-for-2 with an RBI, Zena Robert had one hit and stole a base, and Hailey Rohall and Katie Guerin both scored and stole a base.
The Mules (0-4 overall) play University of St. Thomas on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. and then meet Union College at 2 p.m.
