Softball has top offensive output of season

GORHAM, Maine -- Colby College had its best offensive output of the season with nine runs in the second game of a doubleheader in 9-1 and 13-9 losses to University of Southern Maine on Sunday.

The Mules play at Thomas College on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Game 1 highlights
* Paige Hartnett had two hits and Wiley Holton had an RBI single in the fifth inning for Colby (2-24 overall).
* Julia Saul scored the run, had one hit, and walked for the Mules. Hailey Rohall, Kathleen Mason, and Lolo Niemiec also had hits for Colby.
* The Huskies (19-16) scored four in the third inning and added five in the fifth to end the game under the eight-run rule.
Game 2 highlights
* The Mules had three runs in the second inning and six in the fifth inning to take a 9-6 lead. However, the Huskies scored five in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth.
* Saul had two hits and three RBI to lead the Mules. Rohall, who now leads the team in batting average at .333, also had two hits.
* Holton scored twice and had a double for Colby. Zena Robert and Keturah Stinson (pictured) both had two walks and scored twice, while Emily Dougherty had one hit, a run, and an RBI. Niemiec scored and had one hit and teammate Holly Lallis had one hit and one RBI.
* Saul had a two-run single and Lallis added a bases loaded walk in the third inning for the Mules.
* Dougherty had an RBI single and two other runs scored on the play due to a USM throwing error. Dougherty later scored on another Huskie error. Saul capped off a solid day with an RBI single.
