Nordic teams both finish fifth in long races at UVM Carnival

STOWE, Vt. -- Marin Coletta placed 12th overall for the Colby College women's Nordic ski team and Zane Fields had another top-10 finish for the men on the second day of the University of Vermont Carnival on Saturday.

Both Colby teams placed fifth overall, with the women placing three skiers in the top 25 and five in the top 35. 
 
Coletta had a time of 52 minutes, 37.7 seconds in the 15-kilometer classic mass start at the Trapps Outdoor Center. Erin Bianco made the top 20 by placing 19th in 53:34.0, while Claire Waichler finished 25th with a 54:14.9. Skylar Tupper took 30th in 54:44.4 and Kirsten Miller (picture) was 34th with a 55:18.0.
 
The women were just three points out of fourth place, but did beat both Bowdoin College and Bates College.
 
Fields finished the men's 20K classic mass start in 1:00:05.0 and once again led all New England Small College Athletic Conference skiers.
 
Scott Harrison was 22nd for the Colby men in 1:02:23.3, Foss Kerker placed 31st in 1:03:07.5, and Will Solow was 38th in 1:04:00.4.
 
The Colby men also beat Bowdoin and Bates while accumulating 77 points.
