Egger makes world under-23 championships with strong race at nationals

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Colby College Nordic skier Andrew Egger continued his spectacular skiing at the U.S. Cross Country Championships by qualifying for the Under-23 World Championships.

Egger, a senior captain for the Mules, finished 13th in the country in the classic sprint race and was third among under-23 racers. He will compete in the world championships from January 22 to February 4 in Goms, Switzerland.
"This is a first for us and one of the biggest things that has happened to our program," Colby head coach Tracey Cote said.
Egger, who placed 10th in the freestyle sprint earlier at the U.S. meet, finished the weekend ranked second among under-23 sprinters. He will be one of only 10 American athletes (5 male and 5 female) representing America and will compete against top under-23 skiers from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Canada, and other countries.
Egger had a time of 3 minutes, 34 seconds in the classic sprint race. Colby teammate Carter Hall placed 50th in 3:46.56.
For the Colby women, Claire Waichler took 52nd place in 4:19.22.
