Gibson takes second for Mules in field of Division I athletes

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Colby College's James Gibson started the season strong by taking second place in the long jump at the 2019 Great Dane Classic at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Saturday.
 
Gibson had a leap of 23 feet, 4.75 inches in earning runner-up honors in a field of mostly Division I track and field athletes. 
 
The 1,600 relay team of Nick Boutin, Sage Bailin, Tanner Burton, and Ben Smith placed 10th overall in 3:30.36.
 
Bailin also took 17th in the 500 meters (1:08.27) while teammate Ben Smith placed 23rd in 1:09.06. 
 
In the 60 hurdles, Burton was 24th with an 8.95 after running an 8.90 earlier in a preliminary race. Bailin took 26th place with a 9.06 after going 9.03 earlier in the day.
 
Ty Farris placed 21st for the Mules in the 60 dash (7.11).
 
At a tri-meet with MIT and Bates, Liam McDonough and Kyle McGadney each finished fifth in events for the Mules.
 
McDonough had a time of 1:29.35 in the 600 meters, while McGadney went 24.72 in the 200 dash.
