Men's tennis opens spring season with victory over Southern Maine

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Colby College men's tennis team did not give up a game in three doubles and six singles matches in a 9-0 victory over University of Southern Maine to start the spring season Saturday.

The Colby men and women were scheduled to play Franklin Pierce University on Sunday, but the matches were cancelled due to a storm coming into the area.

Scott Altmeyer, the 17th ranked player in the country in Division III, won at first singles and combined with second singles player Sumukh Pathi for a victory at first doubles.

Max Schuermann, Hans Hwang, Jonathan Hallal, and Peter Messenger all had 6-0 singles victories. Hwang teamed with Luis Gonzalez Kompalic (pictured) to win at second doubles, while Hallal and Messenger were winners at the third spot.

The Mules head to Hamilton College for a 2 p.m. match next Saturday.
