Men's squash settles for eighth after tough 5-4 loss

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Elliot Gross, Alex Spafford, and Chase Holding all had 3-1 weekends for the eighth-seeded Colby College men's squash team, but the Mules had to settle for eighth place after a tough 5-4 loss to Tufts University in the seventh-place match Sunday.

Gross won in straight sets at the first position for the Mules, who also fell to fifth-seeded Amherst College by a 5-4 score. 
 
Spafford (pictured) won 11-2, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7 at the second position, while Holding also won in four sets at 11-9, 5-11, 11-4, 11-9 at the third spot.
 
The Mules swept the top four positions after Alex Kurtin took an 11-9, 11-13, 14-12, 11-8 victory.
 
Tufts took one match in five sets and two more points in four sets.
