Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Men's Rugby team beat Plymouth State University by a score of 42-12 and will advance to Sunday's conference championship match.
Colby scored early when Nate Goddu scored his first try of his career by chasing down a kick in PSU's end and recovering for the score. Steven Ditzler (photo inset), who was perfect on the day, shot the low-angle conversion through the uprights to make the score 7-0 in favor of the Mules. Aidan Cyr, Demetrius Ramirez, and Mack Fisher tallied the Mules' next three scores, with Ditzler adding the conversions. Will Bedingfield scored the final points of the half, and Colby entered the break up 35-0.
Colby's line-speed is one of their strong suits, and the Mules showed that strength in this match. It was clear to the common onlooker that Colby was fast to the break, sure of their tackles, and executed exceptional plays within the gameplan, keeping the contest out of reach of the Panthers. Plymouth would score two second half tries to Colby's one (Aidan Clymer), and the final score ended 42-12.
Colby remains undefeated and will play Holy Cross for the championship Sunday at 1:00pm on the Rugby Pitch at Colby College. The match can be streamed on NSNSports.net.
