Lawrence named All-New England, MacDonald earns coaching honor

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College's Sean Lawrence was one of three goaltenders selected to the All-New England Team and head coach Blaise MacDonald was named the Co-Coach of the Year by the New England Hockey Writers.

Lawrence's play in goal and MacDonald's maneuvers behind the bench helped the Colby men's hockey team win a first-ever New England Small College Athletic Conference title and make the NCAA Division III Tournament Frozen Four.
"So happy to see Sean Lawrence honored on the All- New England team as Jack Burton was last year," MacDonald said. "He was such a big part of our historic run and season and his work habits and demeanor helped to strengthen the way we went about our business and added to our culture."
Lawrence finished the season tied for second in the country in save percentage (.940) and was second in total saves (845). He had a 16-8-2 record and a 2.09 goals against average. In less than two years at Colby, Lawrence had a 23-14-4 record and 1,236 saves.
MacDonald, who earned his 300th career win this season, turned around a team which was 10-10 at one point. The Mules went 7-0-2 in the last nine games before falling to St. Norbert College in an NCAA semifinal. MacDonald already was named the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Division III National Coach of the Year.
"It was a fun year to be a part of this team's journey as a coach," MacDonald said. "(Assistant coach) Chris Hall has done a great job recruiting and the experience as an NCAA champion at Maine that (assistant coach) Mike Latendresse has been a huge benefit to our players and myself as the head coach."
