Men's Second, Third Varsity Eight Qualify for Grand Finals at New England Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – On Saturday May 4th, Colby Men's Crew competed in the New England Rowing Championships in Worcester, MA.

The day started with a time trial for the Men's Third Varsity Eight. The crew of Coxswain Catie Blair, Stroke Will Cordonnier, 7 Jack Koskinen, 6 Teddy Storrs, 5 Jack Coffman, 4 Matt Gawley, 3 Zack Boone, 2 John Olson, and Bow Jason Leong completed the 1600 M Time Trial in 5:06.265, moving them on to the Grand Final Race. In the Grand Final, CMC finished fifth in 6:37.382, behind Boston College (6:22.093), Williams (6:25.818), UMass Amherst (6:29.468), and Bates (6:29.748), and ahead of WPI (6:37.467).

The Men's Second Varsity Eight of Coxswain Minori Cohan, Stroke Parker Sikora, 7 Sam Subbukumar, 6 Danny Ellison, 5 Chris Marcello, 4 Will Seivwright, 3 Simon Pratico, 2 Dan Koo, and Bow Henry Lockwood took next took to the course and finished second in 6:14.919, qualifying for the Grand Final. Ultimately, the Second Varsity Eight finished sixth with a time of 6:38.464, behind Bates (6:18.510), Boston College (6:20.950), Williams (6:23.544), Wesleyan (6:27.156), and Coast Guard (6:36.344).

The final entry of the day for CMC was the Men's First Varsity Eight, composed of Coxswain Chessy Singer, Stroke Jeff Endler, 7 Henry Toulmin, 6 Liam Rex, 5 Ethan Ashley, 4 Arthur Benson, 3 Drew Eckler, 2 Chris Rodiger, and Bow Ethan Boone. In their heat, the First Varsity finished fourth with a 6:09.600, sending them to the Petite Final. In the Petite Final, CMC finished sixth, clocking in at 6:23.784 behind Boston College (6:15.617), Connecticut (6:16.751), WPI (6:18.431), Vermont (6:20.284), and Coast Guard (6:21.051). The First Varsity ended up placing 12th overall.

In team standings Colby finished the Championship in 9th Place on the Men's Team Standings, and 8th in the Combined Team Standings. Colby Men's Crew will have its final race at the NIRCs on Sunday, May 12th.
