Colby's Third Varsity Eight edges out Coast Guard, UMass Lowell for victory in Saturday's regatta

LOWELL, Mass. -- Colby Men's Crew raced in its annual matchup with Coast Guard Academy, UMass Lowell and Amherst College Saturday, April 13, in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The First Varsity Eight of Coxswain Chessy Singer, Stroke Liam Rex, 7 Ethan Ashley, 6 Arthur Benson, 5 Drew Eckler, 4 Will Seivwright, 3 Ethan Boone, 2 Jeff Endler, and Bow Henry Toulmin raced in a heat against Coast Guard Academy. In a close race, the Mules ultimately fell short, finishing 0.8 seconds behind Coast Guard's time of 5:50.2. The loss relegated them to the Petite Final against Amherst College, where they were able to defeat Amherst by 28.5 seconds with a time of 5:45.3.

Next on the water was the Third Varsity Eight of Coxswain Catie Blair, Stroke Teddy Storrs, 7 Jack Koskinen, 6 Matt Gawley, 5 Jack Coffman, 4 John Olson, 3 Zack Boone, 2 Pen Hallowell, and Bow Jason Leong. In a Final Only Race, the Mules were victorious with a time of 6:01.2, besting Coast Guard (6:01.9) and UMass Lowell (6:26.8).

The Men's Second Varsity Eight of Coxswain Minori Cohan, Stroke Parker Sikora, 7 Sam Subbukumar, 6 Dan Ellison, 5 Chris Marcello, 4 Dan Koo, 3 Simon Pratico, 2 Will Cordonnier, and Bow Henry Lockwood faced off against competition from Coast Guard and Amherst. Colby finished second in the Final Only Race with a 5:38.6 behind CGA's 5:36.0 and ahead of Amherst's 6:26.9.

Colby Men's Crew will return to Worcester, MA on April 20th to race against Ithaca College, Trinity College, WPI, UNH and Connecticut College.
