Stewart earns NESCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College's Patrick Stewart (Bangor, Maine/Bangor), who earned tournament MVP honors of the Colby Classic, was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

Stewart averaged 17.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 blocked shots in wins over Pine Manor College (97-96) and Fitchburg State University (81-63).

Stewart, the NCAA and NESCAC leader last year in 3-point field goal percentage, shot 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from long distance. He also shot 80 percent from the foul line (4-for-5), 50 percent from the field (11-22), and had just two turnovers in two games.

In the win over Pine Manor, Stewart had a steal with seven seconds left that led to the game-winning 3-point shot by Tyler Williams. Stewart and teammate Ethan Schlager executed a perfect trap along the sideline. Stewart came up with the ball, got it to Schlager who took a few dribbles and gave the pass to Williams.

With Colby holding a 32-30 halftime lead against Fitchburg State in the title game, Stewart scored 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field and 3-for-3 from 3-point range in the second half.

Stewart, who missed his entire junior season in 2014-15, is using his last year of playing eligibility while earning his teaching certification. He has 781 career points at Colby.
