Field hockey has halftime lead over top-ranked Panthers in loss

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College's Merel van Gijzen (pictured) scored six minutes into the game against top-ranked Middlebury College, but the Panthers bounced back in the second half with a 4-1 NESCAC win Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
 
Game highlights
* The Mules took a 1-0 halftime lead on van Gijzen's goal.
 
* Middlebury (9-0, 5-0 NESCAC) scored 1:32 into the second half and took the lead at 48:27. The Panthers scored two goals in the final 4:56 to pull away.

* Riley Whitmyer had seven of her 11 saves in the first half for Colby. 
 
* The Panthers had a 20-4 shot advantage and a 7-4 margin in penalty corners.
