WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College kicker Walter Thilly (Winchester, Mass.) earned his second honor Tuesday after being named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week.
Thilly was the lone kicker selected for the team in games ending Oct. 20. He was selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Sunday.
Thilly made all three of his field goals, including the game-winning kick with 13.3 seconds remaining, and hit both of his extra points in Colby's 23-21 win against Hamilton College at Seaverns Field at Harold Alfond Stadium.
All three of Thilly's field goals were 30 yards or more. He nailed a 34-yard kick to win the game and had a 30-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter. Thilly also connected from 36 yards.
Thilly also loomed large on a Hamilton kickoff return. He made a touchdown-saving tackle at the Mules' 24-yard line on one kickoff return and Colby's defense did not allow a score.
Thilly is 4-for-5 on field goal attempts this season and made eight of his nine extra points. A sophomore for the Mules, Thilly played with the Colby men's soccer team in his first year.
