Colby alpine skier Wilson wins FIS race at Sugarloaf

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine -- Colby College men's alpine skier Matt Wilson won the slalom Thursday and teammate Colbey Derwin was third to put two Mules on the podium in FIS racing at Sugarloaf.

Wilson (pictured), a sophomore, won a giant slalom race last year in FIS racing. He had one of only two runs under 40 seconds with a 39.73 in his first run and then clocked a 45.89 for a 1:25.85 total.
Derwin had a terrific two days with four finishes in the top four for the Mules. He had a two-run total time of 1:25.85 with trips of 40.16 and 45.69. Derwin, in slalom racing earlier in the day, took fourth place in 42.53 and 41.20 for a 1:23.73 total. 
First-year Chauncey Morgan took sixth place with a 1:26.45 on runs of 40.07 and 46.38. Matt Calarco was 12th in both slaloms Thursday, finishing in 1:26.45 (40.07, 46.38) and 1:25.73 (43.95, 41.78).
