Klein is second straight women's lacrosse player to earn national honor

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College's Emilie Klein (North Andover, Mass.), a week after teammate Sasha Fritts was honored, was selected as the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Klein was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Week on Monday. Fritts was selected as the IWLCA Offensive Player of the Week last Wednesday.

Klein was all over the field in victories against then fourth-ranked Middlebury College and Colorado College.

Klein had nine caused turnovers, two goals, four assists, five ground balls, and four draw controls in a 2-0 week for the Mules. In a 9-6 win over Middlebury, Klein had five caused turnovers, three draw controls, three ground balls, one goal, and two assists.

Klein caused three turnovers in a span of 2:57 in the second half with the Mules up 8-6 on Middlebury. Both of Klein's assists came on tying goals (4-4 and 6-6) after the Mules had fallen behind 4-2 in the first half. Klein also had her goal with 2:17 remaining to give the Mules an insurance score. She also was instrumental for the Mules in running out the clock when Colby retained possession after her goal.

Klein also had four caused turnovers, two ground balls, one draw control, one goal, and two assists in a 21-14 win over Colorado College. After Colorado College had a mini 3-1 scoring run to cut Colby's lead to 12-9, Klein started a 7-0 Colby scoring run when she scored with eight seconds left to halftime.

A tri-captain, Klein has 32 goals, 17 assists, 89 draw controls, 86 ground balls, and 82 caused turnovers in her Colby career.

Klein has helped Colby to a 10-game-winning streak and a 12-3 overall record heading in the NESCAC playoffs.
